Civil registration of deaths in Ireland  began in 1864, notice of the death was to be given to the Registrar within 7 days, and full details within 14 days.

 

Persons required to register deaths were:

  1. some person present at death, or

  2. some person in attendance during the last illness of the deceased, or

  3. the occupier of the house or tenement where the death took place, or

  4. someone else residing in the the house or tenement where the death took place, or

  5. any person present at, or having knowledge of the circumstances of, the death.

 

The following death registrations have been obtained relating to the Moore family;

 

William Moore died 4 March 1952 in Derrins Townland, present at his death was Johnston Moore his son. Age at death is given as 83 years and occupation as a farmer. Cause of death is given as Myocarditis, which is described as inflammation of the myocardium (the muscular tissue of the heart). 

 

Sarah Jane Moore, wife of William,  died  5 December 1948 in the townland of Derrins, aged 69 years and is listed as wife of farmer. Her cause of death is listed as 'Bronchitis, Asthma and Myocarditis Certified'. The death was registered by Johnston Moore of Derrins, son of Sarah, on 15 December 1948. Sarah is buried along with William Clones Church of Ireland. 

Robert Moore (widower),  died on the 12 March 1924 at Tiernahinch, at 86 years of age, with cause of death listed as Senile Decay. Senile Decay refers to the progressive loss of mental capacity that leads to dementia and personal helplessness. The majority of the cases recorded were most likely Alzheimer's disease. [Schmidt2007]. Johnston Moore, son of the deceased was presented at the death and registered the death on 20 March 1924. 

The death of William Storey was registered on 8 August 1902, by his son J.W. Storey, who was present at Williams death on 5 August 1902 at Tiernahinch. Listed as a baker, he was 60 years old and cause of death listed as Bronchitis (12 months), described as 'Inflammation, acute or chronic, of the bronchial tubes or any part of them'.   

John Storey date of death is listed as 17 April 1876 at Clintevrin at 72 years of age, and is listed as a farmer and widower. The death was registered by Thomas Storey, of Clintivevrin, who was present at death.
