
The Moore Family of Clones
1901 Census Records
In the 1901 census it is possible to identify 3 generations of both the Moore and Storey families living in the Clones area;
26 year old William Moore and 21 year old Sarah Jane are living in the town land of Tirnahinch Near, with their two children Robert William (2) and Charlotte. For each of them Church of Ireland is the listed religion and the place of birth is Co.Monaghan. William is a general labourer and Charlotte a dressmaker.

Also identified is Williams parents, Robert Moore (70, a farmer) and Jane (64), farmer’s wife in Tirnahinch Far town land, with three of their children and one grandchild;

It is interesting to note that that Sarah Jane is listed as a dressmaker and Margret and Jane Moore are listed as lace workers as Clones was a renowned centre for lace making in Ireland in the post famine time , late 1800s and almost every family had members who stitched Irish lace, this art form was passed from mother to daughter. By 1910 Clones was the most important centre of crochet lace in Ireland.

Sarah Jane’s parents are also identified William Storey (68) and his wife Charlotte (46) are resident at Newtownbutler Road, Clones; both are listed as lodging house keepers.
